The largest UK lottery win occurred in July 2011. One lucky couple from Largs in Ayrshire scooped a cool £161 million on the Euro millions. They were in dreamland - "When we first realised we had won, it felt like a dream, everything went into slow motion".

About a year earlier another lucky punter won £113 million which instantly elevated the winner to the 589th wealthiest person in the UK. Interestingly it took 12 days before they claimed the prize!

In August 2009, Ugo Verni, a builder from Bagnone in Italy won around £128 million in Italy's SuperEnalotto. Before being identified locals had spotted him looking suspiciously elated while watching a football match. He later admitted he was the lucky person. One of the first things he bought was a new bed.

Pokers popularity just keeps on growing and growing. Both online and in televised events the pots just keep getting bigger. In 2009 alone, Patrik Antonius took down an outrageous pot of close to 900,000 dollars late one night on a popular poker web site, and Tom Dwan won out to Phil Ivey in televised event which was worth approximately $1.2 million.
